Today, like every day lately, I have been listening to RFI (Radio France International) and on-line, reading everything I can about the news from Abidjan. Every day we call close friends who live in Abidjan. We just got off the phone with dear friends who told us of the hundreds of dead bodies that were laying on the roads close to their home. My girl friend said that she had gone out early today to try to find food. She stood in line at a supermarket for 5 hours, only to have the doors close just before she got to the front of the line.
For days now I have had a terrible stomach ache as I try to digest what is happening in Abidjan, what our friends and millions of others, are living. It is truly a tragedy. Joel and I have prayed for them by name, asking God to put His angels around them and protect them. We have invited a couple of families to come and live in our house. The next days will be telling.
Almost 7 years ago we said our good-byes in the midst of a war that was already dividing people and a country. It was bad enough then but I never dreamed it could take the form that it has today. We cry out to God and pray the Psalms of David for the people we love. May our Lord have mercy.

It's unimaginable to me--especially after being gone for so long--what is happening there. It just doesn't seem real.
