Robbed!

On Wednesday of this week Joel and I had planned out our day. We had both been pushing hard and really felt the need for sabbath. After we got the kids off to school we got our sneakers on and started off on our 6 K walk by the sea - a beautiful day! We came home, made oatmeal with raisins and nuts :) and headed for the roof (see picture below) to enjoy a leisurely breakfast together. It was going to be a great day off!!

Joel was ahead of me and I heard him say, "someone was in here" as he reached the room upstairs. Sure enough we had been robbed in the night and we didn't even know it!

Good friends and colleagues had loaned us their generator as our electric has been very sporadic. When the electricity cuts, Joel usually would set the generator outside these doors and run cords downstairs, just to keep the volume down a but. The one night that he left the generator outside these doors, someone was watching. And on this particular night our guard was profoundly sleeping! Someone, maybe two or three people, climbed up over the back wall, onto the roof and forced open the window that you see in the picture. They not only took the generator but also a very large de-humidifier (don't think they would have taken that if they had known what it was) and a lamp. There was a lot of stuff they did not take. They rummaged through everything in the upstairs room and then left the way they came.

There are details I won't give on this public of a website but suffice it to say that we are pretty sure we know who robbed us. This doesn't make us feel any better about it. Not only do we need to replace what we had borrowed but this also took over two full days of Joel's time, to go to the police and file reports, change locks, etc. We also need to increase security around here which is no small task! We are asking God for His wisdom and grace. If you are reading this, please pray for our girls as this was hard for them.
